Early 2024 saw the Energy Efficiency Act enter into force. According to this legislation, future energy consumption will need to be recorded in a public register. This is a good opportunity to assess the efficiency and sustainability of production systems. If you’d like to upgrade your process heating systems in light of this, you should look at the funding opportunities available first. It can pay off: KfW and BAFA have generous pools of funding for all kinds of changes to processes and procedures that save energy and resources. Up to 50% of total costs are covered if a few basic requirements are met. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach for applications from the process industry. It’s about individually presenting and assessing the organisation, the starting position and the planned measure – together with the engineer advising you. This pays off: The valid funding amount for BAFA module 4 is between 30 and 50$ of the total amount estimated. An advisor takes between one and five days to deal with applications for simpler industrial processes. For organisations and undertakings with more complex structures, this can take a little longer. Once the application is submitted, you can place a legally binding order for your system directly with us while BAFA or KfW processes the application, which can take between two weeks and six months.
Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees and an annual turnover below EUR 10 million can factor in funding of EUR 500 per tonne of CO2 saved and a maximum of 30% of the planned total outlay. Mid-sized businesses with 50 to 250 employees and up to EUR 50 million in turnover get EUR 900 per tonne of CO2 – up to 40% of the project can be covered. If you have a large business (non-SME) with over 250 employees, you should factor in a subsidy of EUR 500 per tonne of greenhouse gas and a maximum of 30% of the project costs.
Support is available for measures to change processes and procedures which will lead to energy or resource savings or a switch from fossil to renewable and/or electrical energy. These include measures for the use of process waste heat and energy-related improvements in heating supply, cooling and ventilation. A proportion of the associated costs, from the electrician to TÜV approval and funding advice, can also be covered. The payback time for the entire project, not including the subsidy, must be more than three years. Please note that the following are ineligible for support: Measures which have already been initiated, purely structural measures and the acquisition and upgrade of systems that can be permanently operated exclusively with fossil fuels.
